Network settings in Zesty allow users to define a connection as "Shared to other computers", this does not currently work in Ubuntu MATE 17.04 Beta 2.
The reason, from the logs is that dnsmasq binary, from dnsmasq package is not present:

The way to setup a (wired) connection sharing is as follow:
- Go to Network Connection settings and select the wired connection
- Under [IPv4 Settings -> Method] select "Shared to other computers"
