Lubuntu installation only works if I do the following:

Before installation:
sudo apt-get remove ubiquity-slideshow-lubuntu

Hardware:

AMD Athlon XP 2500
1 GB ram
80 GB HDD

Thank you very much for the workaround! I tried at least five times before disabling the slideshow.
