Yeah, the Permission denied error isn't relevant to that bug, what's is the Illegal Instruction error, though you can't see it as it doesn't show up in any of the logs (yeah, that's a bit annoying :)).
If you try running "sudo /usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity" from a live session, I think you'll see "Illegal Instruction" show up in the terminal right when the slideshow starts (or switches to the first slide, can't remember).
