Bug Description

Could be duplicate of bug #97756. Well into install, after all questions answered, about 1/3 of the way "copying files" the ubiquity window disappears. The whirly is still running so I think copying does proceed to the end of copying but a lot of the install never gets completed. Do note the hardware, Thinkpad R31, can spend a very long time on a upgrade from 12.04 Alpha (installed just fine) to Beta 2 without any problem copying.

Hmmm. Window disappears just about the time the slide show should go to the second frame. Is it possible there's an X window failure displaying the second frame causing the window to close? Here's the video controller:

VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82830 CGC [Chipset Graphics Controller] (rev 04)

Here's .xsession-errors. Do note ubuntu doesn't time stamp these entries so all I know is they occurred in this live session:

Failed again with lubuntu 12.04 20120414.

After all inputs were entered, file copying started, first slideshow slide, minimized the install window to see if "x" failed displaying the window. No luck, after about the same time as usual, the panel tab for install disappeared. Less than 20% of the expected bytes were in the partition.

Anybody any ideas what to try? Lubuntu alpha as (massively) updated to today running O.K.

Precise B2 still failing to install on this IBM Thinkpad, Lubuntu bug 978489, Xubuntu bug 984481, Ubuntu bug 985871 at somewhere near the same place with some differences in the syslog.

Being rather frustrated (!) installed Linux-Mint-LXDE just EXACTLY like I've been trying precise.

Linux-Mint-LXDE flew right through install no hitches whatever! My hardware's running fine!

Being based on "stable" ubuntu the Linux-Mint-LXDE kernel is 3.0.0-12-generic. This thinkpad does have pae flag not needed for this install.

Anyone have anything to try for Lubuntu precise B2? I don't know python.

Regression. Oneiric installs just fine. Tried again, 20120423, window disappears during copy step. For me this is a showstopper, critical. Here's syslog tail:

Trying various releases -

Ocelot 11.10 installs fine.
LInux Mint based on 11.10 installs fine.
Precise ubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu all fail with the same symptoms as I filed with this bug, even in different partitions.

I wondered if upstream had this problem -
Debian Wheezy SID installs fine. That's the latest Debian I could find.

Currently running Quantal 12.10 as updated from Ocelot 11.10 sources.list O.K. for a pre-Alpha, some bugs, no showstoppers.

I'll try a Quantal .iso when it shows up.
