When I do Alt+F1, there is some CD disk activity, but nothing changes. Just for fun, I also tried Alt+F7 after that and it seemed to do absolutely nothing.

CTRL-ALT-BKSP brings me back to the liveCD desktop which seems to open programs and work just fine.
