Thomas, there seem to be a lot of errors about detecting disk partitions and partition types. Can you describe your system, please? What is the disk layout (number of partitions, type), are there existing operating systems (Windows, Ubuntu) and were you keeping any, etc.... Please also confirm that you were installing from the Edgy (Ubuntu 6.10) LiveCD.

Thanks!

Hello.

I can confirm that I were installing from the livecd version 6.10.

I am however confused concerning partitions... all the other disks were disconnected during my install attempt.

Strange.

Kind regards
Thomas

OK, thanks. There are a couple of things we can do to work this problem

First, can you perform a CD verification at boot? Please refer to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CDIntegrityCheck for more information. There is a chance of a bad download or bad burn, always best to make sure we are working with good media.

Next, is there any chance you can try the alternate CD and report back if it works any differently? The alternate image is available from http://releases.ubuntu.com/6.10/

Oh, that's intriguing! I guess it would be helpful to know more about the target disk. Were there existing partitions or was it "clean"? The more you can tell us about the configuration of the target disk (how it was connected, what was on it before the install attempt, how you wanted to partition it), the better.

Thanks for all your assistance, it is most helpful!

I don't think partitioning is relevant here; the error is something to do with incorrect removal of packages that don't belong on the installed system.

Thanks for your report. It's not entirely clear why network-manager couldn't be removed from the installed system, but ubiquity's poor response to this event is bug 69470.
