Additional info:
After several unsuccessful attempts to install from the 10.10 Mythbuntu CD, I downloaded the 10.4 Mythbuntu distro and gave it a shot.
The 10.4 installer successfully ran to completion.
Thus it would appear that my h/w environment is not the cause of the 10.10 installer problem (hanging during 'Configure Hardware' phase).
