Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

On keyboard layout selection dialog when first treeview was focused I pressed letters "cz" in order to select "Czechia". In the right treeview "Cambodia" has shown up. This is totaly wrong, should be something like Czechia QWERTZ, QWERTY... Selecting another language from left treeview (both using keyboard and mouse) does nothing, "Cambodia" remains there as only option. I pressed "Back" button then to get back to time zone selection and try it again, but this only disabled "Back" button and changed cursor to busy state. I then waited until installation has finished hoping for it to show then, but nothing happens. "Ready when you are..." is shown as installation progress state, buttons are still disabled, cannot go back, cannot advance further. Happened to me twice - on laptop and in virtual machine running on desktop PC.

I just saw much the same thing while my wife was installing a netbook system. My first suspicion was that an installer backend process had crashed, but there was no obvious sign of that: no traceback in /var/log/installer/debug.

Changed in ubiquity (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → High
status: New → Confirmed

I can confirm that. I typed in G E R for germany and pressed ENTER, then it stuck. After forcing a reboot, GRUB wasn't set up so it didn't boot anything.

Just downloaded the ISO yesterday and ran into same problem, tried to type Canada and Cambodia is selected on the right panel, can't change it and the backward/forward buttons are disabled.

some here. wanted to select a german keyboard layout. therefore typed in "ger". afterwards on the left side there will be "germany" selected whereas on the right side there "georgia" selected. after this I'm stuck. I can neither go forward nor backward. and selecting another language doesn't change the right side at all. It will always show the georgian keyboard layouts.
I downloaded the newest version of the ubuntu 10.10 installer.

Reproducible with natty alpha3. The bug seems to manifest when you select the layout using keyboard, as opposed to using the mouse.

Also seen in a recent featured Ubuntu Chinese edition: while selecting Spanish keyboard: only Camboya was listed. In consonance with comment 7, this happened when the user used the keyboard to select the distribution, and didn't happen when using the mouse.
The last process which was opened and hung was:
 /bin/sh /usr/lib/ubiquity/console-setup/console-setup.postinst configure

I was able to reproduce this (or a bug quite similar) by quickly switching between keyboard maps by typing over the treeviews.

I tried install Natty Beta 2 on a Virtual Box machine, but I'm stuck since I choose "France". Need to be unblock to provide support in Launchpad about ubiquity!

Still on Natty release.
I know many people who tried ubuntu and ran into this. This is a huge bug, as you waste your time waiting for the installation to finish and thinking you might be able to fix it after install, but nothing happens.

Took a picture of a friend's laptop when this happened: http://i.imgur.com/cto4T.jpg

Not entirely sure, but isn't this a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/645449 ?
