I haven't been able to reproduce this myself. I don't suppose you could try the proposed change from the end of that mail? The test procedure would be to boot the installer with 'break=casper-bottom' on the kernel command line, then 'chroot /root vi /etc/init/ubiquity.conf' and edit the 'stop on' line to read:
stop on (stopping gdm
or stopping kdm
or stopping xdm
or stopping uxlaunch)
