adding a rather rambling comment about some other problems with the new installer.

asks to select wireless network but none shown even though I have 2 and was actually connected to one at the time ( installing from live cd desktop ).
downloaded and installed updates during installation even though that option was NOT selected and then hung at "retrieving file 18 of 18 ", skip option was greyed out.
aborted installation but it had already installed everything but the grub files
rebooted live cd and tried again without any network connected so it couldn't try to d/l anything , strange, I was installing to sdd the first time now the same drive is called sdb ( I can tell from the size and arrangement of the partitions ) also it wiped out the labels for the partitions . well this time it still tried to d/l updates even though it was not connected to any network , skip still greyed out .waited 30 min for it to timeout trying to d/l unasked for updates with no network connection , aborted second install attempt .
