I think I have seen the same: the installer repeatedly crashes at 95% :(

One question: What file system is /boot on? I was able to install dapper finally, after having realized that maybe there was just an unfetched warning about grub having problems with xfs file systems.

If you have the same problem: Make a small /boot partition with an ext file system.

I was trying and xfs partition. andi5 says that he had the same
problem and that it was b/c of the XFS filesystem. Apparently his
worked with a jfs install. I installed using text mode and got it up
and running. The screen went blank for a bit but ipressed enter after
the HDD indicator stopped and it rebooted and now I am in. Thanks for
your help

Thanks for your report. Due to some reliability problems with GRUB and XFS, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot filesystem. Bug 47848 is filed to note that the partitioner should warn you about this up-front.
