how to attach the files /var/log/installer/syslog, /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/partman

BTW, the partially installed system is bootable and partly usable but could not get update via synaptic.

Please attach the log files using the "Add Attachment" link on this bug's web page (https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/48448). Unfortunately if you've already rebooted then you have probably erased them, and you may need to reinstall to recapture the problem.

Are you by chance installing using an XFS root filesystem? If so, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot filesystem.

Changed in ubiquity:
status: Unconfirmed → Needs Info

/var/log-installer/syslog

I could only attached 1 file on the launchpad so here is the first file.

Yes I'm using XFS on my partitions and also used Zenwalk Linux with grub boot loader. I could boot my Zenwalk kernel on a dedicated /boot (XFS) partition.

For the Xubuntu installation the / and /boot are on the same partition. I've successfully added this to my /boot/grub/menu.lst and boot the Xubuntu system.

OK, thanks. This is bug 47848, then. XFS on /boot works on *some* systems, it's just unreliable with grub; and there's an extra ubiquity bug which causes the actual crash, for which I have a fix in my local tree. It's really easiest to just use a small non-XFS /boot filesystem for now, though.
