I could not run the espresso with ESPRESSO_DEBUG=1 sudo espresso, so I tried to figure out what was going on. I decided to install the gtk frontend for espresso, and when I did that, running the previous command works, in fact it seems like it is installing. I don't know if this helps any, however it may.
