Can you please check that the MD5 checksum of the ISO you downloaded matches the MD5 checksum provided on the Ubuntu website, following the instructions at <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM>.
Also, can you please run the "Check CD for defects" test from the CD boot menu.
This could be a bug in squashfs, but we'll need to first rule out the possibility of data corruption.
