The important bit started in #22.
By booting the older daily (sudo apt update; sudo apt full-upgrade) to get the fixed `ubiquity` & other packages... then starting the install..
The install I'd done before - hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290) manual partitioning, pre-prepared, DOS/mbr/legacy with single sda1
install completed; no seen errors.. rebooted & I can login to ubuntu hirsute :)
