Let's say that the EFI partition is not selected, it only shows the type (EFI) but it's not selected a mount point.
As reported in comment #10 I have also tried the installation explicitly selecting "don't use this partition" for the EFI on the USB stick. But it didn't work, same problems of the other attempts.
