Bug Description

In Ubuntu 16.04 there was an option to encrypt the home partition, that would present itself at the enter user name and password stage of the install process. However this option doesn't seem to be in the current version of Ubuntu 18.04. Instead there is just an option for whole disk encryption.

no longer affects: ubuntubudgie

I should also add that I was testing Ubuntu Budgie when I ran into this bug

I've just tested it, and it still affects Ubuntu Budgie as of the 17th March

Thanks for your report. This option has been removed on purpose because ecryptfs is not supported anymore.

So what can a user do who dual-boots with Windows, and thus full-disk encryption is not feasible? Me, I personally only want my Ubuntu home dir to be encrypted...

I encrypted just the partition, then auto mounted it at log on.

I assume one could encrypt a home folder after installation with;

sudo ecryptfs-migrate-home -u $USER

Very disappointing the option is removed:( It was very easy for new inexperienced users, and one of the reasons to move to Ubuntu.
