After I got past that point, I also got an "Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sda: Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda' failed. This is a fatal error." Related? Not sure. Documentation on Ubuntu wiki on how to create and install to a btrfs hasn't been updated since 12.04
