Some additional information about the partitions:

Since I did a successful manual installation in the meantime (i.e., not using the installer for setting up encryption) I now simulated a fresh install by deleting my swap partition /dev/sda7 and trying to create a new encrypted partition using the installer.

All partitions show up as sdbX since I'm booting from a USB stick.
