Is this reproducible on other flavours e.g. xubuntu and/or ubuntu? maybe it's simply fonts that are missing in the default lubuntu install to show those (due to policy of not installing recommends). It would be easier to match/figure out which languages are mis-represented, thus narrowing down what's going on wrong.
