worked-around by forcing the libavcodec in preload

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libavcodec.so.53 transcode ....

I suspect that the
/usr/lib/transcode/import_ffmpeg.so

doesn't import the libavcodec

Will investigate further.
