Same thing happened for me: totem is uninterruptible, I have run a movie for about 10 minutes or so, but what I did, was I was constantly searching (using the mouse scroll wheel) for a specific part of the movie. After I've found it, I watched it (for like 2 - 3 minutes or so), and then closed totem. And ever since (it's been more than 12 hours) processor use is constantly at 100% (with totem having a variable percentage depending on what other things I do on the system) and system load at around 10.
The process name is:

Notice that the movie runs from an external HDD, which has never been disconnected, and that has NTFS file system.
