Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop

With a fresh install of Ubuntu Gutsy (Tribe 4) I can't play an ogg file by double clicking on it. I just get the message ""file.ogg" cannot be opened. No application suitable for automatic installation is available for handling this kind of file." - which is utter nonsense of course and makes no sense even for an ogg file.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It works fine here with a updated Gutsy, may you update your box and see if that works? thanks in advance.

Confirmed, the mimetype detected is "audio/x-vorbis+ogg" which is not list by totem. Adding "audio/ogg" to the MimeType list fixes the issue, I've opened a bug upstream and attached a patch to it, that will likely be fixed with the next version

A couple notes: First, as of today's daily desktop live image, this is still a problem...are we expecting to merge the upstream patch before beta freeze?

Second, does the patch also address .spx files? "fables_01_01_aesop.spx" from the Examples directory on the live cd throws the same error when double-clicked. If the patch was already included upstream and this wasn't addressed, I suppose I should open a new bug.

Thanks,
-Gabriel

OGG video seems to work now:

"ubuntu Sax.ogg" cannot be opened
"Experience Ubuntu.ogg" works fine
"fables_01_01_aesop.spx" cannot be opened

I think that if ubuntu sax.ogg isn't working then the fix isn't in yet...I believe that the video worked all along, it was just the audio files that were causing problems.
