I am a newbie to many aspects of linux so please allow this dumb question?
How do I run totem from a command line to open the file?
(I have since erased the particular file used but other .mp3 files give
me the error
message that Totem couldn't play the file requested and the following
part was
in English
  'There were no decoders found to handle the stream,
  you might need to install the corresponding plugins'

[ -OK- }
At this point, I click the OK button. the message dissappears
and no further help is offered.

I will try to install the codecs from the menu if there is an automatic
update selection somewhere in the menus.

Perhaps my stupidity is testimony to how good Ubuntu's user interface is?
between apt-get install "" and Synaptic Package Manager I have never before
needed to run a program from the command line.
