This bug has been fixed in Tor (see see https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/ticket/2063). It seems like the package in Ubuntu hasn't been updated, and I'm not sure why.

You may want to switch to the torproject.org repository: https://www.torproject.org/docs/debian.html.en
