This works fine for me on both the Mac versions of 3.0 and 3.1 nightlies.
There's a known bug for automatically going back online (Linux doesn't really support automatically anyway, and its off by default) but that shouldn't be affecting you.
I would suggest checking the error console whilst you're coming back online to see if anything gets added.
Re: libxul.so - you won't get that until we switch over to linking xulrunner style - i.e. with libxul.so. We've already got bugs on that work, so there's no need to file another.
