weird.

at first, I was unable to reproduce this.

but then (using Mark | Thread | Read?) I was able to get into a bogus state
where the unread count on the thread was clearly wrong.

stephend, when you see this problem, what's the unread count for the thread?
(it's in the "Unread" column, second from the right in the thread pane)
