No doubt this has been a major PITA for many users, for a very long time -- thus the huge number of search results and duplicate claims...

The auto-change of passwords might seem like a "feature", but nearly 100% of the time, this feature is a major PITA.

Seems like a very simple solution:
Don't ever auto-change any send or receive passwords. At most, there should be a pop-up notice informing of "server log-in failure -- would you like to alter your password".
