I am experiencing this issue with Thunderbird and Gmail IMAP accounts as well. Even after selecting remember password and OK, a failure pops up and it forgets the password.
I have also noticed that Thunderbird seems to have login failures to GMAIL without even trying a connection when memory usage by other applications is high.
