One way that things like this were traditionally addressed would be to put files created by root processes but owned by regular users into /var, like user crontabs in /var/spool/cron/ or user mailboxes in /var/spool/mail/. Would something like that be a possible solution to this problem?

It's embarrassing that snaps can't be used at institutions with even minimal network security in place.
