I'm having similar problems again in 1:91.9.1+build1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 with Thunderbird's CPU usage well over 100% and long periods of not responding since the update.

But the fix for the original problem is still active:

  gfx.webrender.all = false
  gfx.webrender.force-disabled = true
