[snap] Thunderbird 78.11 does not play new email sound

Bug Description

(Was the same before v. 78.11.)

TB does not play a sound when a new mail incomes, even if the correct option is selected.
Changing from default to custom sound does not change the issue.

New emails notifications do work as intended, except sound.

Thanks for the report François. This was previously reported at https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/snap-thunderbird-plays-no-sounds/23953. I'm quoting my comment from that thread here:

Can you share the output of the following command?

    snap connections thunderbird

Also, if you’re trying to use a custom sound file, it might be that the snap sandboxing doesn’t allow the application to read that file. Where is that file located on disk?

I can select a custom sound from /usr/share/sounds, I don't get a deny of access.

Thunderbird uses libcanberra to play sound but the 3.34 gnome framework build was not including the right driver for that to work correctly. The issue was already fixed in 3.38 but we backported the change to 3.34 now, you should be able to verify by doing

$ sudo snap refresh --candidate gnome-3-34-1804

I can confirm it works (TB 78.11 snap, Debian 11) with default sound.
I can select a custom sound and it works too (displayed location: file:///run/user/1000/[etc.]).

Great, thanks!
