I thought that Options > Format > Plain Text Only is this toggle and is simply utterly broken -- it only changes your message to plain text when you Send or Send Later. So I filed bug 339887. If Options > Format is not intended to do what this bug requests then there should be a separate bug that it is very confusing and should be renamed, e.g. Options > **Message Delivery Format** > Plain Text Only.

I expect to lose all HTML formatting when I switch to Plain Text, I don't expect it to magically reappear if I switch back. I can Undo or compose a new message.

Thanks for the Shift-click workaround! Until this bug is fixed it's a shame that the workaround is so hidden.
