texlive will *not* intall on fresh intrepid

I thought it would be safe to finally upgrade to Intrepid, but I'm not able to use LaTeX at all presently. The apt-get install just hangs there -- it tells you to wait, but never ends. So you must ^c and all your dependencies are screwed up. It sounds very similar to this discussion/bug:

Don't use unstable material? Why do you go to a testing distribution if
you are not up to fixing things yourself if it breaks?
