Installing the package texlive-base seems to fix this issue. Should it be a dependency?

I followed Radu C's lead (#2, above). It definitely appears to be a dependency issue.

It was a dependency,i uninstalled texlive-binaries and installed

one more thing i upgraded from Lucid-Beta to Lucid-release ..so on the
upgrade script it has to take care these dependencies...

This is definitely a dependency issue. tex-common needs texlive-base because the tex-common --configure process seems to search for the texlive-base package. In addition, I got to this point because I needed to install dvipng, which seems to depend on texlive-base-bin. texlive-base-bin is replaced by texlive-binaries. texlive-binaries depends upon tex-common.

Maybe texlive-binaries should also depend on texlive-base?

Following advice from #2: I issued the command "apt-get install texlive-base" and that ended fine with "txt-common" now installing as well.

The problem arose for me with the installation of "keepnote_0.6.2-1_all.deb" .... this had the dependency for "txt-common" and resulted in errors for the three packages: txt-common texlive-binaries dvipng.

"sudo dpkg --confgure -a" confirmed error fixed for me. Hope this helps :)

Incurred this bug when attempting to install Winefish via Ubuntu Software Center, since tex-common is a dependency.

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

Not a big deal, don't need Winefish for anything, was just curious about it.

I've got rid out of this by installing "texlive-base" and other dependencies (like tex-common, texlive-binaries) get installed automatically! [the reason behind I'd got this bug when I was installing a package "ibus-fonts".]

Thanks @ Radu C (no. #2 comment)

Was my response when trying to install winefish apparently something is wrong with "tex-common"
