page warning people that installing or upgrading on older kernels will fail because of this issue (along with bug #552816)?
(As mentioned in this bug report, it definitely fails on 2.6.18; based on the discussionin Debian BTS #563726 it sounds like this may apply to kernels uip to 2.6.21, though I don't have any way to test anything other than 2.6.18 myself.)
