I have formatted my partitions with reiserfs.
Should I expect then, that the upgrade to hardy wont fix it, as described above?

Should then rather add a startup script like this:
/etc/rcS.d/S29usplash_timeout.sh

#!/bin/sh
/sbin/usplash_write "TIMEOUT 60"
