Just a small update to make things clear. The OOPS by itself doesn't happen anymore on 2.6.24 (Hardy) because the following patch is applied to the standard 2.6.24 kernel.
This patch could be applied right now to 2.6.22 (Gusty) and it would prevent the OOPS reported above.
Then there is a second problem which is to make RNDIS USB devices work with Linux. It is my understanding that at the moment neither 2.6.22 nor 2.6.24 would work with such devices. Since the synce patch (pointed above) was not correct I proposed another one which should soon be merged to linux kernel main tree. The actual proposal is here:
