Hi!

I'm a new Ubuntu user. I had the same problem with the quick search and the "sudo update-apt-xapian-index" fixed it, thanks guys.

I've observed one thing that might help you to find the problem. When I start Synaptic, it shows all the packages, but when I write 2 or more letters in the Quick Search, it automatically show ONLY THE INSTALLED PACKAGES whit these two letters.
