I am on 12.04 32-bit and encountered the same issue.
Resolved by using the suggestion as made in comment #9 in Bug #975560

$ rm -rf ~/.swt/lib/linux/x86
$ ln -s /usr/lib/jni ~/.swt/lib/linux/x86
