I've also got this problem. I'm using ubuntu 8.04 beta AMD 64, Sun JDK 1.6 (synaptic version: 6-04-02, java version: build 1.6.0_04-b12)
Eclipse ran ok allowing me to install plugin's and check code out of svn, the crash occurs when it starts compiling the workspace.
