The do-relesae-upgrade -d to move my laptop from trusty to xenial failed partway through due to a squid3 error. I was left with the apt database in an unhappy state and no clear directions how to proceed.

I think things are looking good with:

apt-get install -f # this re-installed squid3 and some other package
apt-get autoremove
apt-get -u dist-upgrade

The upgrade is in the middle of unpacking all the packages from the dist-upgrade.

Thanks
