Bug Description

I'm just filing this in case someone else wants to work on this.

Upstream uses the name sound-theme-freedesktop (http://cgit.freedesktop.org/sound-theme-freedesktop/), so I initially uploaded this to Ubuntu using the same name. I uploaded it to Ubuntu as it was blocked in Debian by the use of CC licences. At some point, Debian became satisfied with the licencing (by dropping the CC-BY-SA 2.0 files?). It was uploaded to Debain by someone else as freedesktop-sound-theme. These should be merged at some point.

I tried to merge 0.7.dfsg-1 from Debian, but this was rejected from the Ubuntu NEW queue. Upstream version 0.7 was mistakenly released without a CREDITS file, making the copyright situation unclear. I don't really understand how the package made it through Debian NEW.

I uploaded a 0.8~gitXXXX version with the CREDITS file re-added. It was rejected from the Ubuntu NEW queue with:

"I'm rejecting freedesktop-sound-theme again, the licencing isn't
entirely clear. "CC-BY-SA" can refer to any of many variants of the
creative commons licence, please find some proof which variant it
refers to for each file and include that in debian/copyright. Ping
for for a prompt review if it gets uploaded again."

The version originally uploaded by me to Ubuntu (0.2) had a much clearer licencing situation than 0.7:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/lucid/sound-theme-freedesktop/lucid/view/2/README

As it stands, the situation is pretty confusing. sound-theme-freedesktop 0.7 is in the Ubuntu archive. freedesktop-sound-theme 0.7 has been rejected from the Ubuntu archive. freedesktop-sound-theme 0.7 is in the Debian archive. Possibly it needs to be removed from the archive considering the archive-admin stance on trying to merge the Debian package. Of course this would cause problems now that it is in main and there are reverse dependencies.

Changed in sound-theme-freedesktop (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → High
status: New → Confirmed

When merging, make sure you don't lose the Multi-Arch: foreign field

I've just uploaded a sound-theme-freedesktop to the debian archive (which is replacing freedesktop-sound-theme)
