cant directly add a ppa using the "Add" button

wanted to add a ppa into synaptic: checking "Add" button of "Other software" tab, dont open the dialog box to enter the ppa address. There is no error produced nor crash, simply nothing happen.

Thanks for your report, that dialog is part of software-properties, I adjusted the package name. Are there any errors displayed in the file '~/.xsession-errors'? Also, try running 'gksudo software-properties-gtk', does that work for you?

" gksudo software-properties-gtk" open the dialog box but the problem with "Add" button is the same, and nothing logged.

this report seems a dupe of Bug #721778 as the issue is the same. But this bug seems to affect other software while using menu or clicking to start those softwares: today, for the first time, Firefox refuse to start from menu (nothing logged nor dialog errors shown) but start from a terminal, some other soft start by clicking on their icons but take a long time.

So this " UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc2 in position 2: ordinal not in range(128)" error affect the whole system, not only software-properties-gtk.
