Bug Description

software-center-gtk3 trunk r2119, Ubuntu Ocelot
Ubuntu Software Center 5.1.14.1, Ubuntu Precise Beta 2

1. Launch USC.
2. Enter some search text, or navigate to a category like "Accessories" that has no subcategories.
3. Select an item in the list.
4. Either click Back, then click Forward; or choose "More Info", then click Back.

What happens: No item in the list is selected.
What should happen: The item that was selected is still selected.

<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareCenter#navigation-back-forward>: "Each item in the history should remember ... what software item was selected (if any) ... These attributes should persist if you return to the screen using Back/Forward navigation, but not if you navigate to the screen any other way."

Still present in Precise Alpha 1 with software-center 5.1.4. This bug can be extremely annoying when, for example, browsing a long list of software and idly checking each one out in order; when looking at More Info and going back, it takes you straight back to the top of the list and you have to find where you left off all over again.

I verified that this is still an issue in Ubuntu Software Center 5.1.14.1, Ubuntu Precise Beta 2.

Hi Chris, regarding your comment #2, when I try to reproduce I an see the problem where the selection is not remembered. However, in Ubuntu Software Center 5.1.14.1 in Precise, the list scroll position is retained. So, I think the annoyance you describe at having to refind your place, at least, is now resolved. Please let me know if that's not the case for you.

Thanks all!
