Was able to resolve by editing `/etc/apt/sources.list` to use the [Cc]anonical repository, as per <https://help.ubuntu.com/10.10/serverguide/C/configuration.html>, then running `sudo aptitude update; sudo aptitude dist-upgrade`. I had been getting this warning message before the upgrade began any downloads; after changing the repo it goes right into downloading.
I had been using the same mirror (http://mirror.its.dal.ca/ubuntu/) without issues for some months now, and have not had a problem until now. I have done numerous updates since upgrading to Maverick and before experiencing this issue.
