@nigels - there is no setting because there's no real way to represent arbitrary location. This is a very hard technical problem, not the lack of a knob to control some setting.
There are conventions we could use to get to a state where most users could be happy. Where is your music and videos mounted? Could you mount them in a sub-directory of /mnt perhaps?
