First, to be clear, the best way forward for integration is via desktop portals, where the access and authorization is integrated into the desktop shell. I don't know the status of that work but it's ongoing.
The work Zyga is prototyping is to allow non-desktop-integrated snaps (like, indeed, vlc, or hopefully even server snaps on a headless system) to have a similar mechanism, perhaps less smooth but still usable.
As I understand it Zyga's work is exploratory in nature, to see what's possible, before sitting down with designers to discuss what we want to do with those possibilities. Given this, I think it's a little early for getting upset about a UX you're imaging to be bad before it's even discussed, let alone implemented.
It is, however, a good time for describing how you'd _like_ to use something like this.
Just don't let it go all "Oh no! You're ruining my workflow!" or whatever. Document use cases, etc.
