Bug Description

Skype's systray icon is shown correctly at first. However, after suspend/resume, it changes into a kind of "keep out" sign, as shown in the attached screenshot. This wrong icon will stay there until a restart of Skype.

I am not sure whether this is a problem in Skype or the desktop environment.

Description: Ubuntu 16.10
Release: 16.10

Actually, I am running the 'devel' version of Ubuntu. I have not checked other versions.

skype:
  Installed: 4.3.0.37-0ubuntu0.12.04.1
  Candidate: 4.3.0.37-0ubuntu0.12.04.1
  Version table:
 *** 4.3.0.37-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 500
        500 http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu devel/partner amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Update: the icon breaks the moment that the screen is locked.

People are reporting similar issues with other applications too: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2340265

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1633174/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

For now assigning this against skype as leaving the report assigned to Ubuntu project in general will probably see little action taken.

affects: ubuntu → skype (Ubuntu)

I upgraded from Ubuntu 16.04 to 16.10 and the issue is present also for me (and according to the posts on ubuntu forums, affects many other user) and is not related just to Skype indicator icon, but for me the same issue is present for Owncloud indicator icon as well. The issue can be reproduced also by lock of the screen, then unlock and the Icons are gone - instead of the skype and ownlocud indicator icon, there is a black rectangle icon with a red sign.

no longer affects: owncloud (Ubuntu)

Also "Radio Tray" suffers from the same problem. Closing an app which has a corrupted icon restores the icons again (in my case).

For example:
- "Skype" & "Radio Tray" running with proper icons
- Lock screen (icons visually turn to wrong icon before screen is locked, ie. during fade)
- Unlock screen
- Close "Radio Tray"
- Icon for Skype is normal again
