I think this needs more clarification after this long time. The files affected by this bug have there gear icon on the file missing (that I was refering to in the startpost as executable files which wasn't accurate). They look then just like simple text files.

> 2. are they only files that use #!/usr/bin/python? what about python3? what about #!/usr/bin/env python? for that matter, where does /usr/bin/python point to? it is a symbolic link after all.

At least Python 2, Python 3 and C files are currently affected by this bug (but PCManFM is correctly detecting the file types and I got the hint in the PCManFM tracker that this bug is probably related to an icon-theme). But I remember to have encountered more file types in the past.
